- Q: What is the Dry Blood Collection Card
- A: Our dry blood Collection card is a patented blood collection device which enables simple finger prick blood drop collection. The blood spot collection device is intended to facilitate in vitro diagnostic laboratory testing of finger stick blood samples for a variety of clinical chemical assays. The blood collection device consists of a blood collection card that contains a special membrane that separates the red blood cells from the blood serum. Once the blood sample is placed in the designated area and fully dried on the blood collection card, the patient places the blood collection card into the sample return pouch and mails it to their testing laboratory.
- Q: What is included in the Dry Blood Collection Kit
- A: Each Dry Blood Collection Kit is packaged with: Dry blood spot card, Alcohol pad, Lancet, Band-Aid, dry storage pouch for blood card transport, a set of instructions, barcode label, return shipping bag and Return Shipping Label available for print or download from the registration site.
- Q: What are the benefits of using the Dry Blood Card Collection Kit?
- A: These benefits allow for more versatile use in remote settings all over the world. The simple collection steps make it so easy there is no need for a trained medical personnel, like a phlebotomist, cold storage test tubes, dangerous needles, or painful vein punctures.
- Q: What tests can be run with the dry blood card?
- A: See our list of 53 different target Blood Assays that have been developed.
- Q: Extraction Overview (high level)
- A: Start with removing the Consult4HealthXP card from the desiccant bag in which it was placed after collecting. Using powder free gloves, punch out from the separated serum area of the card and remove and discard the blue bottom support and plastic under the top card layer. Place the punches to the bottom of appropriately labeled test tubes. Add appropriate volume of “proprietary” buffer solution into the tubes and cover. Place the tubes onto a rack and place the rack onto a rotary shaker. Shake the tubes at approximately 200 rpm and shake for 90 minutes. Remove the fluid from the tubes and place into analyzer sample cups and inject the fluid for the desired analyte.
- Q: What is the shelf life and stability of the blood card?
- A: Our dry blood spot card has been used for over eight years in a variety of the top US laboratories. The storage shelf life has proved to last without issue over the past eight years and our studies continue beyond. Once the blood drop samples have been collected, the card has been tested for stability up to 165°F and can be kept in our special transport bag for up to five months. Temperature studies are test specific; one study does not fit all.
- Q: What type of medical device approval does the Blood card have?
- A: The dry blood spot card is not a test kit, the dry blood spot card is listed as a Class 1 Specimen Transport Device.
